Jewels TV
The ministry that the Lord gave to Neil and Jamie was originally called “Love Song to the Messiah” because their lives were to be a love song to the Messiah. When God called Neil to start a Messianic Synagogue in Fort Lauderdale, FL in 1976, He began to give Jamie Messianic praise and worship music ( although she had never written songs before ). One of the first songs was “Love Song to the Messiah”, the song that is still sung at the end of each Jewish Jewels television program. The ministry, and then the TV program, derived its name from that song.
A problem arose when Neil and Jamie were constantly mistaken for “singers” due to the name of the ministry. At that point, God gave them a new name :“Jewish Jewels” – a name which would also fit much better in the TV Guide, and which would draw the attention of Jewish people. “Jewish Jewels” actually came for a verse in the Brit Hadasha, Matthew 13:52: “Therefore every scribe instructed concerning the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure things new and old.” The treasure is the Holy Bible. ( The ancient rabbis said that the Torah was a treasure, a many faceted jewel.) The teachings in the Bible are the jewels. We are the householder who brings them out, some from the “Old” and some from the “New”. All are jewels, and all the jewels are Jewish, since the entire Bible was written by Jews.
Most of the Jewish Jewels programs focus on ONE JEWEL, and seek to explore that jewel in as many creative ways as possible through short segments, i.e. teaching, interviews with Messianic Jewish believers, cooking, dance, congregational worship, and interviews in Israel pertaining to the topic of the program. Neil and Jamie trace the jewels from the Torah to the New Covenant, always careful to point out the Yeshua HaMashiach is the most precious Jewish Jewel of all!
