Anti-Semitism has been around since God made a covenant with Abraham and told him: “I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” It is a spiritual phenomenon. An attempt to prevent God’s promise from being fulfilled, thereby making God a liar and all of His promises untrustworthy. The first attempt to keep this promise from coming to pass was when Pharaoh gave the order to kill all the male children of the Israelites (Exodus 1:15-16). Passover reminds us that God was able to deliver His children from Pharaoh. Each year when we celebrate Purim we are reminded that God delivered us from Haman’s attempt to destroy the Jewish people (Esther 3:8-9). Hanukkah reminds us of God’s deliverance from Antiochus plan to destroy the Jewish people. The Inquisition, the Programs, and the Holocaust were further attempts to prevent God from keeping His promise to His friend Abraham, and through him to all mankind. Although the above list is by no means complete, it certainly indicates a deliberate planned attempt throughout the ages to accomplish the destruction of the Jewish people. The anti-Israelism of today is simply the old anti-Semitism by a new name. The savage assault on the CBS reporter in the streets of Cairo last week were preceded by shouts of her being a Jew (she is not). This week, the shouts in the streets of Tunisia have turned from “FREEDOM” to “Death to the Jews.” You can be sure that this will rapidly spread through all the Militant Islamic states surrounding Israel. The root of all this hate and anger is Satan, the enemy of God. He is once again operating through the “Prince of Persia” (Daniel 10:13). (Ancient Persia is modern day Iran.) So what can we do? 1. “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem…” (Psalm 122:6) and all of Israel. Pray for the Jewish people all over the world, especially those who have been drawn to faith in the Messiah Yeshua. 2. Remember “We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against powers, against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:12) 3.
